Braces are the angels that help straighten your crooked teeth. Orthodontic treatment is recommended in the growing age for children for a perfect smile, it’s that branch of dentistry that corrects the improperly placed teeth & jaws. The treatment can be recommended by your dentist after a thorough diagnosis that involves clinical examination, casts and a couple of x-rays.
Braces can be of various types metallic, ceramic, glass & invisible aligners, all aiming in improving the dental health
These are the traditional braces that most of us know about. A metal wire passes through the metal slots, many kinds of wire exhibiting different properties makes the treatment faster and less painful. These are least expensive and most visible braces. Sticky and hard food has to be avoided during the course of braces as they may tend to break or detach from the tooth
These are same in size and shape as that of metal braces but are more esthetic as in these are more like the tooth color and hence less visible. These can beused along with tooth colored wire or metal wires as well. A drawback is that if not taken care of these tend to stain or break in certain cases.
Again the shape and size is almost same as that of ceramic or metal but these look clear and hence making them the most aesthetic. These come with a metal slot and hence metal wires are used best. They are durable and smooth hence causing less ulcers and discomfort in patient’s mouth.
In these the braces are customized for a particular patient and look like the traditional metal braces but are invisible from outside as these are applied on the inner surface of the teeth along with metal wires. These are a little difficult to adjust and are time consuming than other braces system. In these braces the patient experiences discomfort often due to the placement of the braces. In few cases these cannot be considered as an option.
These are the invisible kind of braces that look like mouth guard trays. They come in a set of 25 to 30 custom made trays each for upper jaw and lower jaw. These are easy to wear, removable, most esthetic and patient friendly. The trays are made up of a plastic material that causes less chances of ulcers and other various discomforts caused by regular braces. It is the most expensive option and yes, it cannot be used in few complicated cases. In case an aligner is lost or broken the treatment may delay and it is also costly to replace the same.
Often an orthodontic treatment or problem will be first noticed by the dentist during regular check up and in other few cases the children can’t wait to get their braces. The xrays that can help us confirm the treatment are a Lat. Cephalogram and an OPG, along with a few study models and pictures. Its never too late to start dental treatment.
